HOW WE STARTED
The Wiregrass Film Exchange was born from a simple idea: young people in Southeast Alabama should have the same opportunities to explore filmmaking as students in larger cities. What began with a single middle school student experimenting on a point-and-shoot camera revealed a much bigger truth — talent exists everywhere, but access does not.
Recognizing the barriers that local students face when it comes to professional equipment and training, community partners came together to create the Film Exchange. Through a multi-county competition, winners receive “Creator Kits” and mentorship that prepare them to launch their own media production businesses. The program ensures that today’s aspiring storytellers have the tools, skills, and confidence to turn their creativity into real careers.

HOW IT'S POSSIBLE
The Wiregrass Film Exchange is made possible through partnerships with industry experts, educational institutions, and corporate sponsors, combining resources and expertise to offer aspiring filmmakers access to equipment and training. This cooperative effort streamlines the delivery of a comprehensive program that identifies and equips local young talent in filmmaking.
